Our History
Tar Heel Trading Company was established in 1979 by Mary Ames. The goal was to bring fine craft to the Outer Banks coast, a tourist destination which at the time was relatively remote and lacked such offerings. Our name came from the fact that the shop would feature North Carolina crafts from what is known as the Tarheel state.
